
Are we aping the Americans--the arrival of the Mayflower, the boat carrying the Pilgrims from the Old World of Europe, their survival in New England, the eating of corn and turkey, etc.?

Or was it in celebration of Martin Frobisher's landing in what's today's Iqaluit?

Or perhaps something else? Who knows?
